Domain Names
Your Online Presence Starts Here!
Call it a domain name, a URL, or a website address. Whatever you call it,
it's the cornerstone of your online presence, and we make getting one
easy...
A Domain Name is a unique name identifying a Web site, located at the right of the @ sign in
an Internet address. Domain names always have two or more parts, separated by dots,
as in www.yourdomain.com. Domains are tied to name servers, which direct to which IP
address the domain should point. Any server can have multiple domain names, but a domain
name can only point to one server. It is also possible for a domain name to exist but not
be connected to an actual machine. This is often done so that a group or business can have
an Internet e-mail address without having to establish a real Internet site. In these cases,
an Internet service provider's machine must handle the mail on behalf of the listed domain
name.
Without domain names each and every Web site would have to be
recalled by a number like this (216.239.32.1 -Google), similar to the telephone system, but
much more difficult to remember! For this reason domain names were
introduced, and have made navigation on the net much simpler!
